Sony MH1 & Comply TX400 Ear-tips Upgrade

The Sony MH 1 earphones is very well known for the best earphones out there with superior sound quality for less than US$15. I have it for quite long of time since here and I guess nothing in this price range yet can compares it directly. The only downside of this Sony MH 1 is the ear-tips doesn't feel comfortable. No matter how you adjust it, rather it is feel too pushing your ears canal, or too loose in ears fitment. That is why on hand I got the memory foam ear-tips from Comply, the TX 400, a company that specialized making ear-tips that hopefully can make this Sony MH 1 more comfortable to use.

I got this Comply TX 400 from local seller with individual pack for cheap. Although the packaging seems like the promotional package, but I think this is a legit product.

The Comply TX 400 is a memory foam ear-tips with filter commonly use by hi-end earphones manufacture like Shure. Different with the Sony MH1 ear-tips which using rubber based material same like any other earphones.

Sadly, this TX 400 inner diameter is about 5 mm and too large to fit to the Sony MH 1. This TX 400 cannot directly insert to MH 1 and that is why a little mod should be done. This is quite easy job to do.

To do this, we still need the OEM MH 1 ear-tips.

Pull it inside out and this is will become like this.

We need to cut the tube about 6 mm.

The cut piece put inside the MH 1 and will be use as an adapter to the TX 400.

Then, firmly insert this TX 400 to the MH 1.

This mod is very easy and using Comply TX 400 will improve the comfortably using with this Sony MH1. The outer diameter of the TX400 tip seems larger after this mod, but it is not make any difference when wearing into the ears canal since this memory foam tip are actually adapt to the size of the canal itself.  Sound wise, the TX 400 attenuate a little bit on high frequency because of the filter. It is blocked the treble and the MH1 itself has the sound characteristic to warm, so it makes the sound a little bit dull. Luckily there is many option for ear-tips type from Comply with or without the filter. So there is better option next time I buy without the filter.
