DIY Toyota Agya Head Unit Kenwood DPX-5030 Installation

This is a new Toyota Agya, a very compact car that suitable for my wife's everyday activity. Since this car is a low cost car, no wonder for the audio system also comes with low quality as well. I have no others reason to keep it and I should immediate replace with the better one.

Since this new car is very popular on the market, so with the parts are widely available. I want make clean installation without sacrifice any original cable and socket, then the first parts required is the OEM plug cable adapter. There is total 2 socket required and I bought it all around US$10.

Using this socket for a clean installation without any cutting to the original wire is more easy to do.

To understanding the color cables you need to read the manual and match it with the cable from the socket.

This is how I connect all the cables.

After that steps complete, it is the time to remove head unit from the dash.

Start from the bottom right, there is a small hole. Using the rag to protect the surface and thin screwdriver to pull it out. Then continue pull out all tabs surrounding the frame. Use gently force to remove it. The new car tends to hard to open at the first time.

Next step is unscrew the bold beside the head unit.

Installing the socket and the new head unit along with the OEM bracket. I am using Kenwood DPX-5030.

To finishing this installation, I bought the new frame to suit this OEM head unit. The original head unit's frame cut out layout is bigger and using tabs for the original frame cannot be done without modification. It is a risky step and better buy the new universal frame for less than US$18.

This is a new frame with a rectangle cut out hole for universal head unit.

The new panel doesn't have the air-con vent. That is why I remove the original vent and install to the new one.

This tab ring should be install to make the air-con vent stay firmly in position.

Once everything are put back to the dash and this is how it's done!

Although there is still have some gap between upper and lower head unit, but overall I am satisfy with this clean installation.

later on, I notice that this Kenwood head unit has an AUX in feature by using the DIN connector at the back of this head unit. Later on I will try activate that feature.

The result for this installation is very good. The looks like back to 90's but the sound quality is lots improve over the OEM head unit.
