B&O Beoplay H5 Bluetooth Earphone Review

I remember when I was receive my first portable cassette player, it is a bulky player, need four AA batteries to operate and a wired earphones. I was 9 years old at that time and the sound quality is not good but I was very happy at that time. Time goes by, today technology are advance now. All gadget are become wireless. The iPhone 7 is the starter for removing the traditional wired earphone jack. It is likely become a new standard that everyone should have their own Bluetooth earphone. On my hands, I bring the most famous brands for the stylish audiophile on the market. It is the Bang & Olufsen H5 Bluetooth earphone to be review.

My testing gears are actually my everyday gadget that I familiar with it. The iPhone 6+ and Oneplus One all with Apple Music apps installed. The music tested are actually on every genre music in that apps. So lets take a look at the B&O H5 itself.

Once again, B&O is very serious to become the stylish audiophile company in the world. Look at the built quality of this H5! Touching the earphones body will feels soft and rubbery. You will notice that they are using high quality material in this section.

I also like the B&O logo over the aluminium plate at the outer side of the earphone. Eye-catching in my opinion and it tells to everyone that you are appreciate the design of the B&O.

H5 cable is covered with cotton braided. This is the most important things in earphone cables, especially if you are often using the earphone on the go, the stressed to the cables quite high and sometimes, the cables break before the earphone itself. So, the function is very clear, the tough earphone cable that can withstand to the rest of the earphone itself.

The H5 package already included several standard earbud tips or if you want more silent, they also provided the memory foam earbud which at this review, I prefer using the standard one. They are very comfortable to wear compares to my previous earphone, the Sony MH-1. You can see the small plate inner side of the earphone that actually for charging and for disconnect the Bluetooth if they put on together. Overall H5 has simple operating without hassle.

Put them like this, then it disconnected from your phone. They are magnetically attached.

This H5 comes with the apps. A nice looking apps but to be honest, the function are not useful. With or without this app, this H5 can be working flawlessly.

This app function is let you control the songs that you played skip forward, backward or play or pause.

The main function of this app is lets you adjust the sound characteristic of this H5. The UI let you adjust the sound characteristic by only slide the white dot to the desired sound profile. Obviously, none of those sound setting makes the sound better.

By default, this H5 sound is the winner among all Bluetooth earphones that I've ever tested. Sound wise, they are bright, punchy bass, wide sound-stages and crispy highs. This is the sound character that makes you very energized.

One thing for sure, the mid section are not a champ. You probably will not satisfy if you are wish to have an intimate voice from this H5. Thin voices doesn't makes you impress on simple music or vocal oriented music genres. But this H5 is clearly the best for hi-beat music like pop and rock. Note thatI playing music of Rockabye from Clean Bandit in this test and the sound are very good.

Hopefully this short review can give you the B&O sound presentation and you can match to your own sound preference when decide to purchase this H5.

Vintage Multibit R2R DAC Tier List

At the very beginning of this year, I committed to explore the best multi-bit R2R DAC. This is simply because I have plenty of the resources (from broken old unit CD player of course) and ability to build them up. If you think this kind a recycle from old un-used unit to become something useful, than I should stated myself giving contribute for greener world:) After all DAC that I built in this year, I think it is better for me to list them up again in one single page like this. Then I will rank them up in a simple tier list. The reason for this, so you all know what my opinion about of those vintage multibit R2R DAC especially in the sound quality.

TDA1543 DAC Review In 2021

It is a fine day and as usual I am reading and searching online contents related to almost anything I like. During my search, I stop to the few online forum discuss about a simple DAC using TDA1543 DAC IC. The discussion about this DAC was about 3 years ago, and the latest was about a year ago. Quite new and overall discussion about this DAC sound quality mostly are positive. It is interesting topic anyway especially I was built this TDA1543 DAC long time ago in 2016. At that time, I combine this DAC with Tripath amplifier  here  and  here  before it sold in 2019. That is also my first DIY DAC and I am quite enjoyed this DAC so much, at that time. The background story about this, previously I was using Sony Playstation SCPH-1002 as my reference CD Player. The reason I moved to this TDA1543 DAC is because the CD optic inside the Playstation is wear out and I cannot find the replacement for it. I pretty remember the sound quality of this TDA1543 DAC is quite comparable...
