Tripath TK2050 Amplifier Kit Review (Part 2)

This part 2 is continue from the Part 1 here.

After my office hour yesterday, I had a chance to visit my favorite component audio store. I bought several components to continuing this Tripath amplifier project. As you can see this Tripath amplifier projcet will be very interesting because the components that I choose for this project is so much better and expensive than the price of the kit itself.

First of all, this is the Panasonic FC capacitor that will be use in the power supply section. This is a very good quality capacitor and become one of my favorite capacitor. This Panasonic FC is affordable and the specification is very good. This capacitor has the lowest ESR compares to other capacitor with the same grade.

Who cannot resist to use this ALPS blue potentiometer in the amplifier. Same like me, this ALPS blue is my favorite potentiometer not just because the price is affordable, it also have good linearity and good sounding potentiometer. This ALPS blue potentiometer's price always going up year by year and when I bought it, the price is almost the same to the Tripath kit itself.

I also bought this special PCB for this ALPS blue potentiometer. It is very useful for beginner in DIY audio to learn how to connect the potentiometer as a volume control. IN from the RCA female plug, OUT to the amplifier input. Easy!

In this project I also using the bigger film capacitors. It is actually a cheap MKP capacitors compares to the pricy WIMA. I think this is enough for the Zobel network application that will be use next.

The others fancy components is this CMC USA female RCA connector. I also cannot bear with beautiful RCA plug to put in this amplifier. Again, this CMC plug almost the same price with the amplifier kit itself.

The power switch I will using here is the Salecom brand. This is a Taiwan product but this switch is so much different with the cheap one. This is very good switch and still affordable.

Next one is this solid aluminum knob for more sleek looking amplifier.

This is the kit after I installing the filter capacitor and Zobel network. This kit look beefy now.

I am using this handy size universal aluminum amplifier casing. This casing not only look great, it also suitable for this amplifier project.

I think it is all for the progress of this amplifier build.

In the part 3 here, I will working with the casing to make holes for the input and output terminals.

OPA1622 Vs. OPA627 High Performance Op-amps Comparison

This op-amps comparison topic is actually boring, but at the same time, many of us still curious about what others think about it. The reason is simply because of the op-amps variation are hundreds and they are depends by the implementation. The op-amps are considerably cheap and an interchangeable electronic components but they are not built for the same function. So in this discussion, I will focus on the modern Vs. vintage high performance op-amps in the simple non-inverting pre-amplifier gain stage.

Vintage Multibit R2R DAC Tier List

At the very beginning of this year, I committed to explore the best multi-bit R2R DAC. This is simply because I have plenty of the resources (from broken old unit CD player of course) and ability to build them up. If you think this kind a recycle from old un-used unit to become something useful, than I should stated myself giving contribute for greener world:) After all DAC that I built in this year, I think it is better for me to list them up again in one single page like this. Then I will rank them up in a simple tier list. The reason for this, so you all know what my opinion about of those vintage multibit R2R DAC especially in the sound quality.

What Mazda Bose Centerpoint Does to The Music?

It has been a month since I bought and use this brand-new Mazda CX-5 as my daily cars. No doubt for the car performance, this is one of the most reliable, yet very comfortable car to drive. This Mazda CX-5 is the Elite version with 2.5-liter engine and package with Bose  audio system as a "bonus" features. This is car is very interesting, I will try to explain it from my own perspectives as a casual user, especially for the Bose audio system. Early disclaimer, I listening to this Bose audio system and in my opinion, the overall sound quality is not very special. Surprise, surprise! The sound quality is average but for sure better than most cars with non-audio brand collaboration. Let's deep down to it.
