Testing DIY Interconnect Cable From My Friend

I mostly build my own audio connector and I always using the Canare cable. They are cheap, high quality and overall sound for me is natural and minimum in sound coloration. About a month ago, my friend come to my house and we have a little chat about audio cables. He offering me to test this cable and review about it, and I replied, why not?!

First thing first, the plugs connector are from CMC. Charming Music Company. I have no doubt about the CMC plug quality. I using the female RCA plug on my most amplifier project and the quality are awesome. I like the model and I also like the quality. They are very affordable compare to WBT or Furutech. Moreover, this CMC plugs are made in USA.

The cable itself are small in diameter. Around less than 5 mm each. I feel the jacket are made from Teflon. They are quite stiff.

Inside the core of the cable, I believe it is pure silver. Quite expensive cable from what I explore so far. See also the RCA locking mechanism of this plug are easily removed for soldering purpose.

This high quality cable is so small compare to the hole of the plug. Lots of spaces right there!

Speaking about the cable, this is the shoot of my favorite interconnect cable from Canare. It is more thicker than cable on this review. Canare using copper conductor and rubber jacket. No wonder it is quite cheap.

Come to my conclusion about what I experience with this cable for a month. The characteristic of silver conductor are best at high frequency. I immediate feel the airy highs, the cymbal are pronouce lively. The sound stage are wider than usual, I like it.

The vocal itself I can say a little bit thinner compare to the Canare. I believe this is because the audio frequency dominant to the high frequency. The overall sound are more flat on vocal and bass and superior to the treble. Mix and match system would give a good balance on sound, I tried from Tripath, F5, and Gainclone amplifier. This cable is best at my Tripath amplifier. The more I listen, the more I enjoy this silver character. Too bad I have to return this cable to my friend and now I am using my old cheap Canare in my system again.

Actually, after I return it, I try to find that cable on my trusted seller. I found the similarity. Very similar! The thin cable with CMC connectors. But the cable color is different now. It is gold. And the seller said that it is real gold! I try to ask the price, bravely. This is US$200 cable price pair. Then I better stick to my cheap Canare instead.

OPA1622 Vs. OPA627 High Performance Op-amps Comparison

This op-amps comparison topic is actually boring, but at the same time, many of us still curious about what others think about it. The reason is simply because of the op-amps variation are hundreds and they are depends by the implementation. The op-amps are considerably cheap and an interchangeable electronic components but they are not built for the same function. So in this discussion, I will focus on the modern Vs. vintage high performance op-amps in the simple non-inverting pre-amplifier gain stage.

Vintage Multibit R2R DAC Tier List

At the very beginning of this year, I committed to explore the best multi-bit R2R DAC. This is simply because I have plenty of the resources (from broken old unit CD player of course) and ability to build them up. If you think this kind a recycle from old un-used unit to become something useful, than I should stated myself giving contribute for greener world:) After all DAC that I built in this year, I think it is better for me to list them up again in one single page like this. Then I will rank them up in a simple tier list. The reason for this, so you all know what my opinion about of those vintage multibit R2R DAC especially in the sound quality.

TDA1543 DAC Review In 2021

It is a fine day and as usual I am reading and searching online contents related to almost anything I like. During my search, I stop to the few online forum discuss about a simple DAC using TDA1543 DAC IC. The discussion about this DAC was about 3 years ago, and the latest was about a year ago. Quite new and overall discussion about this DAC sound quality mostly are positive. It is interesting topic anyway especially I was built this TDA1543 DAC long time ago in 2016. At that time, I combine this DAC with Tripath amplifier  here  and  here  before it sold in 2019. That is also my first DIY DAC and I am quite enjoyed this DAC so much, at that time. The background story about this, previously I was using Sony Playstation SCPH-1002 as my reference CD Player. The reason I moved to this TDA1543 DAC is because the CD optic inside the Playstation is wear out and I cannot find the replacement for it. I pretty remember the sound quality of this TDA1543 DAC is quite comparable...
